- Harry E. Klages, a World War II pilot who later owned Cathell Bros. & Co. Inc. and was a longtime volunteer with the Friends of Jerusalem Mill, died Monday at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center of complications from a fall. He was 93.
- Retired Methodist pastor walks into sticky situation as interim pastor of Hampden United Methodist Church. The church lost its pastor of past 10 years, who moved to Florida, then got a new, 31-year-old pastor, who they thought would help grow the aging church. But he died unexpectedly without starting the job. Now, congregants are feeling beaten up. The new guy wants to help.
- Ralph W. Miller, a retired mechanical engineer who was a partner in a Baltimore engineering firm, died may 8 of heart failure at the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center. He was 91.
- The Rev. Gerald W. "Jerry" Weiss, who had pastored United Methodist churches in Maryland and was an inveterate collector and repairer of antique clocks, died April 6 of heart failure at Charlestown Retirement Community. He was 84.

- The Eagle Scout rank, the highest advancement possible in the Boy Scouts of America, is earned by only about 5 percent of the boys who join Scouts. Boy Scout Troop 793, which meets at Glenelg United Methodist Church, has had 10 members move into the "Eagle's Nest" in the last year.
- The Rev. Bonnie McCubbin, 27, will be celebrating her first Easter next month as pastor of Good Shepherd, a United Methodist congregation of 60 members. While it's the biggest UMC in Hampden, that's not saying much, as mergers in recent years have left only two UMC churches in Hampden. She is one of only three full-time pastors in the area of any denomination. We profile her.
