Since 1975, the Columbia Figure Skating Club has provided area skaters with the opportunity to pursue both recreational and competitive skating. Each spring, Pat Muth, her daughter Martha, granddaughter Melissa, and a host of volunteers put many of these rising ice stars in a standing-room-only spectacle, this time around appropriately called "Frozen In Time," at the Columbia Ice Rink.
Our schools do a great job of offering cultural events to the community, including Jazz at the Ridge every spring at Marriotts Ridge High School. This year's concert, on Friday, April 4, at 7 p.m., will feature Marriotts Ridge jazz ensembles and vocalists, as wells as guest artist Scott Paddock.

Howard County's only professional orchestra, Howard County Concert Orchestra, will perform a Spanish New Year's Celebration, Sunday, Jan. 12, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Ellicott's City's St. John's Episcopal Church.
Sarah Nalty, of Glenelg, has had a fantastic summer. She went to France for 10 days with the Peabody Children's Chorus Cantate ensemble. The Cantate ensemble, for children ages 12 to 18, visited Paris, Tours and Caen.
