Hats off to Hampden, a gala fundraiser at Gutierrez Studios in Woodberry on Saturday, April 14, raises money for the Hampden Family Center and its programs ranging from after-school tutoring for schoolchildren to adult education and help paying utility bills. The theme of the gala is that everybody wears a fancy or funky hat. This year's gala includes auctions to win prizes including tickets and a limo ride to see Madonna and Coldplay.

Four County Council members are calling for the state task force studying the school board selection process to throw out a Sept. 9 vote that eliminated an elected or partially-elected school board among options being considered.
