The Hampstead American Legion Auxiliary Unit 200, with the Town of Hampstead, will help celebrate the lighting of the town’s Christmas display.

But the humane society staff, and one local vet, didn’t give up on him, and last week, after months of procedures and treatments, Duke found his forever home with a family in Dundalk.

NESAP is still selling the 2018 Community Discount Cards, at a cost of only $5 each. The cards feature discounts to local businesses such as Outlaw BBQ, Dutch Corner, Greenmount Station, Matthews Tire, Spargos, and many more. The card is good through Dec. 1, 2018.

Much like Small Business Saturday, we’d like to encourage folks to think a little more locally when making a donation to a charitable cause on Giving Tuesday.

A number of Giving Tuesday events are planned in Baltimore to drum up donations in time for the holidays.

While many of us crashed on sofas and chairs doing our best to sleep off tryptophan served up with turkey, others had another itch to scratch — the urge to shop.

Often with the new year, people are looking for a new start, a fresh start. Some New Year's resolutions may include improving their health with diet and exercise, working on their financial situation via a new job, saving better; or working on things at home such as remodeling, purging through items that cause clutter, etc.

The Hampstead American Legion Post 200 has their annual Veterans Tree set up in the lounge. The Legion has set the tree up now for 10 years.

The Manchester Volunteer Fire Department is featuring its annual Train Garden from noon until 6 p.m. Saturdays, Dec. 10, Dec. 17, and Sundays, Dec. 11, 18; and from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, Saturday, Dec. 31 and Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017. The train garden is free to the public and is located on the second floor of the fire department.

On Giving Tuesday, all donations to a San Diego nonprofit will be spent on books for the library at Harlem Park Elementary/Middle School.

NESAP will be receiving Giving Tuesday donations from Nov. 29 through Dec. 16.

One Bel Air coffee shop is putting a creative spin on giving this holiday season by getting its customers to "pay it forward" to each other.

With everything that's been in the news lately, it's easy to become overwhelmed with all the negativity. So following are the voices of three Rodgers Forge neighbors who have some positive words. Maybe if we focus more on all the good in the world, it will outweigh all the perceived bad. Because there's good all around us. We just need to slow down and take notice.

The companies that made this year's Top Workplaces list come from all sectors: information technology, mortgage lending, property management, health care, education and engineering, to name a few. But common themes emerged when employees shared why they love their jobs. Their reasons include finding meaning in one's work, answering to managers who empower and appreciate them, and having the potential to grow professionally and personally.

Maryland charities were working to eclipse the estimated $9 million donated last year in dollars and volunteer hours on #GivingTuesday.
