USA Network has renewed "Shooter," an action drama based on Baltimore author Stephen Hunter's "Point of Impact" novel, for a second season.
The series, which debuted in November on the basic cable channel, has drawn an average audience of 2.6 million viewers, with 974,000 in the most desired 18- to 49-year-old age group. It's USA's highest-rated new series.
Hunter's novel was first made into a 2007 feature film starring Mark Wahlberg, who now serves as an executive producer on the TV series. Ryan Phillippe plays Bob Lee Swagger, a former Marine sniper caught up in betrayal and high-level political intrigue.
