Anne Arundel County Public Schools' students start school the week of Aug. 26, with staggered start dates depending on grade. A special community event is coming up in Darlington. Jane Howe and her helper husband are building a new community garden area behind the Grace Church Parish Hall. The purpose of the garden is to grow produce that will be given to the low-income families and seniors who attend Grace Church's distributions. The children from the Wilson camp program are helping Jane with preparations and planting. If all "grows" well this year, the garden area may be expanded next year.
While a steady rain fell on the 33rd annual Havre de Grace Seafood Festival during the day Friday, Festival visitors heading to the evening concert with headliners The Oak Ridge Boys were treated to a stunning sunset casting the few remaining clouds in orange.
This weekend will be one of the biggest of the summer in Harford County, what with the Cal Ripken World Series in Aberdeen, the Maryland BBQ Bash in Bel Air and the Havre de Grace Seafood Festival all slated to start on Friday.

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission launched Safe Summer five years ago in a smattering of Prince George's County community centers, according to Lori Smith, a youth program specialist with the commission. Its popularity prompted county recreation officials to expand the program to include 24 centers the following year, she said, and Deerfield Run was one of the centers added.
On Saturday night, for what Dr. Rehan Khan says is the fourth year in a row, the Muslim community of Harford County held an iftar, an evening fast-breaking meal, and invited non-Muslims from near and far to join them.
