Ravens center Matt Birk missed practice for a fourth consecutive day Thursday. The reason for his absence has not been disclosed, though head coach John Harbaugh said on Tuesday that the 36-year-old is at the stage of his career where he doesn't have to practice every day.
Second-year defensive end Pernell McPhee, who has been sidelined since organized team activities with a knee injury, returned to the practice field on Wednesday, his first full-participation practice of Ravens training camp.

The discomfort Yanda felt months ago after he suffered bruised ribs Week 16 against Cleveland, was just a memory on Tuesday as he participated in training camp. When asked to reflect on playing through the pain, Yanda chose to focus on the present, saying he is 100 percent.
Chykie Brown and Asa Jackson are two young guys fighting for playing time in the Ravens¿ talented secondary and they both stood out Tuesday in a practice that featured several interceptions. Brown, a fifth-round pick last year, and Jackson, a fifth-round pick this year, had two picks each and all four would have went back for touchdowns if play continued.
STANDOUT PERFORMER NO. 1: Outside linebacker Sergio Kindle enjoyed a strong day. He finished with five sacks, including 2 1/2 sacks of quarterback Tyrod Taylor in a span of four plays. Kindle also came away with an interception off a Taylor pass tipped by rookie linebacker Nigel Carr.
Bryant McKinnie's absence from training camp extended through the second day and Ravens coach John Harbaugh acknowledged that McKinnie is being fined as per CBA rules. Ravens rookie guard/tackle Kelechi Osemele was taken off the physically unable to perform list and returned to practice today, but cornerback Lardarius Webb was not among the participants. Webb did practice yesterday and there's no early word on what prompted today's absence. Ravens coach John Harbaugh will speak to reporters later today.
A half hour into the first full-squad practice of training camp, there is no sign of Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata or offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie. Of course, we will let you know if that should change.
McKinnie is still squarely in the 300s, but he says he¿s been working to cut his weight in the offseason. The offensive tackle told Tim Brando on Yahoo! Sports Radio on Wednesday that his weight is down to 350 pounds.
