- The Caves Valley Golf Club Foundation's 2016 $100,000 scholarship winner, DeAndre Diggs, set to enroll in UMES' PGA Golf Management program this fall, didn't know how to manage a flagstick as a freshman at Archbishop Curley, much less break 100 over 18 holes three years ago.

- No round of professional golf can be played on the Blue Course at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda without, it seems, comparing it to the events of two years ago, to the 111th U.S. Open in which Rory McIlroy appeared to make a mockery of the place.

I had scheduled myself there, with staff photographer as well, before I got that visiting North Harford senior Sarah Heaps was likely going to score her 1,000th career point on that night.
