- Congratulations to Allison and Tim Day on the birth of their son, William "Billy" Ambrose Day, on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 10:55 p.m. Billy weighed in at 6 pounds and was 22 inches long. Material grandparents are Michael and Beverly Caldwell and maternal great-grandparents are Ben and Joyce Caldwell.
- Five businesses in the Route 40 area were each charged $1,000 Wednesday after being found guilty of selling alcohol to minors by the Harford County Liquor Control Board.
- Thirty-six new citizens were sworn in during a ceremony Friday at the Baltimore offices of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
- A celebration of life for Perryville resident Patricia Slayman Campbell Baker, who passed away Feb. 4, will be held Saturday, March 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Harmony Lodge, 1510 Tome Highway, Port Deposit.
- The annual Mardi Gras Parade in Havre de Grace will be this Tuesday evening, March 4, and there's plenty of other great Fat Tuesday fun going on around town leading up to the big night, as the city embraces French culture with a grand week of celebration.
- Emerald Isle Club based in Towson hosts monthly ceilis with music and dance at the Parkville American Legion Post. The St. Patrick's Day Ceili takes place March 1 and will feature demonstration by McHale School of Irish Dance in Lutherville
- Chandra Parker Thacker was called to Eastern York Middle School in November to pick up her daughter Nina, 13, who complained of being short of breath and light-headed in gym class. Thacker took Nina to the family doctor for a chest X-ray in case the pneumonia she had five months earlier had returned.
- Welcome to the world to our new grandson, Caden Jacob Southall, who was born on Monday, Feb. 10 at 8:20 p.m. He was 8 pounds, 3 ounces and 21 ¼ inches (he weighed the same as his daddy did back in 1977).
- Four talented performers took the stage at the 2nd Annual Vegas Night Saturday at Port's VFW Post 8185. Guitarist Norman Gaither was followed by "Singing Cindi" Lamb. Then emcee and DJ Bob Cross performed several Neil Diamond tunes. The evening's entertainment was capped by Jesse McCarly with his "Powers of the Mind" show
- It's finally here! The 2nd Annual Vegas Night fundraiser is set for Saturday at the Port Deposit VFW Post 8185.
- It was announced that Rev. Raymond Wanner, the assistant pastor at St. Margaret's Church in Bel Air since 1959, would be the first principal of John Carroll School when it opened in September 1964. The Archbishop of Baltimore Lawrence Shehan also announced that the new school would be named John Carroll in memory of Archbishop John Carroll, the first Archbishop of Baltimore and the first member of the United States Hierarchy
- As a distant relative of Army Chaplain Rev. Clark V. Poling, Jamey Struve of Bel Air is well versed in the events of the early hours of Feb. 3, 1943, when her mother's cousin and three of his fellow chaplains on the U.S. troop transport Dorchester sacrificed their lives for those of their fellow troops as the ship sank after being torpedoed by a German submarine.
- The 2014 Cecil County Relay for Life "kicked-off" Saturday at the Moose Lodge, Elkton. This year's event will be held on Friday, May 29 to Saturday, May 30 on the track at Elkton High School

- Jane Sawyers, bartender extraordinaire at the VFW Post 8185, celebrated her birthday on Tuesday, Jan. 21 while stuck inside during that very snowy day. Jane organized a fundraiser in the VFW's canteen for the following Saturday night, and she was surprised with two birthday cakes. Jane shared her cakes with the partygoers that evening – in between the eating and the dancing and the silent auction betting. When the dust cleared, Jane had raised more than $1,000 for the VFW's National Home
