According to the CDC, over 220,000 women and 2,000 men were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011. Excluding some forms of skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common kind of cancer among women, and a leading cause of death among women of various ethnicities.
- Madhulika Sikka, the keynote speaker at the Pink Fling Luncheon at the Carroll Hospital Center Sunday, began her speech by taking a poll. She asked who in the room had been diagnosed with cancer, and more than two score hands went up. She then asked who worked in the medical field, and another 20 hands were raised. She finally asked who knew someone who has been diagnosed with cancer, and everyone put a hand in the air.
