The Ninth District Health Committee's medical supplies loan closet based at Loch Raven Elementary is closing. Volunteers who staff the closet, which lends such items as walkers, wheelchairs, canes, etc., are dwindling. The local health committee is the last of 15 such committees around the area. Bette Decker, a former public health nurse, chairs the local commitee.

Forty-one runners of all ages ran the Howard County Striders "Meet of the Miles" at Oakland Mills High School. Five-year-old Carolyn Shadrick won the kids 100-meter dash, and 7-year-old Emmett Seybold was the 400 winner. For the adults, Elisha Peterson led the way for the men and Tasha Hogan was the woman's winner in the mile run.
Congratulations to Tim and Stacy Duer on the birth of their daughter, Elise Renee Duer, on June 28. She weighed in at 6 pounds 11 ounces and was 19 inches long. Maternal grandparents are David and Betty Streeter.
