Maryland to face Loyola Maryland in men's basketball in December

The Maryland and Loyola Maryland men’s basketball teams will meet for the first time in 15 years this winter, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

The Terps will host the Greyhounds on Dec. 11, one of three reported nonconference games for Maryland next season against in-state opponents. Navy and Mount St. Mary’s also will face the Terps.

G.G. Smith stepped down as Loyola Maryland coach in March after five seasons at the helm. Former Georgia Tech assistant Tavaras Hardy takes over a team that finished the season ranked among the 30 worst in the country, according to, but returns three of its top five scorers.

The Greyhounds are 5-8 all time against Maryland, but have lost the past eight meetings. The teams last met in 2003, when then-No. 10 Maryland won, 85-58.

Delaware (Nov. 6), Virginia (Nov. 28), Seton Hall (Dec. 22), Hofstra and Marshall are also expected to be on Maryland's nonconference schedule.
