Terps forward James Padgett has court date for DWI charge

James Padgett is scheduled to appear in Prince George's County Court on Friday to face charges of driving while impaired by alcohol.

The Maryland senior power forward was pulled over June 16 at 3:28 a.m. by the University of Maryland Police Department. His court date is set for 1:15 p.m. Friday in Hyattsville.

The Diamondback, Maryland's student newspaper, first reported the news of Padgett's legal issue.

"We are aware of this situation and have no further comment as this is a pending legal matter," a Maryland athletic department official said in a statement. Padgett will still attend the ACC's basketball media day Wednseday in Charlotte, N.C.

The blood-alcohol content level for DUIs in Maryland is .08 and above. For DWIs, the range in BAC is from .04-.07. According to The Diamondback, Padgett registered a .07.

Padgett averaged a career-high 8.8 points and 5.8 rebounds as a junior. He appeared in all 32 of Maryland's games last season, starting 27.
