Heyward-Bey caught three passes for 33 yards last season in 16 games, including one start.
A former first-round NFL draft pick by the Oakland Raiders, Heyward-Bey has played in 88 games, including 65 starts. Heyward-Bey has 172 receptions for 2,413 yards and a dozen touchdowns in six NFL seasons.
Heyward-Bey was cut by the Raiders in 2013 after four seasons. The former McDonogh standout spent the 2013 season with the Indianapolis Colts under a one-year, $3 million contract. He caught 29 passes for 309 yards and a touchdown in 11 starts for the Colts.
He signed a one-year, $795,000 contract with the Steelers last year that included a $65,000 signing bonus.
Big and fast at 6 feet 2 and 220 pounds, Heyward-Bey ran the 40-yard dash in 4.23 seconds at the NFL scouting combine in 2009.
That speed hasn't always translated into consistent success for Heyward-Bey. He caught a career-high 64 passes for 975 yards and four touchdowns with the Raiders in 2011, but dipped to 41 catches for 606 yards and five touchdowns the following season during his final year with the Raiders.
At Maryland, Heyward-Bey caught 138 passes for 1,958 yards and 13 touchdowns before declaring early for the NFL draft.
