Green Bay Packers sign ex-Terps wide receiver Kevin Dorsey, other notes

The Green Bay Packers signed former Maryland wide receiver Kevin Dorsey to their active roster Monday.

Dorsey, who was selected by the Packers in the seventh round of last year's draft, spent the first five weeks of this season on Green Bay’s practice squad after spending last year on the team's injured reserve because of a toe injury.

Dorsey, who had five catches for 52 yards for Green Bay during the preseason, only had 18 catches for 311 yards and four touchdowns as a senior at Maryland in 2013.

However, he had 45 catches for 573 yards and three touchdowns as a junior in 2012 and likely helped his draft stock by testing out well at the Terps’ Pro Day last year.

At 6 feet 1 and 207 pounds, Dorsey ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds, had a 38-inch vertical jump and had a 10-foot, 10-inch broad jump. Dorsey also got 17 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Dorsey will wear No. 13 with the Packers.

Patriots cut Vellano

The New England Patriots released former Maryland defensive tackle Joe Vellano on Monday.

Vellano played in all 16 games for the Patriots last year, started eight and had 54 tackles and two sacks. However, Vellano had not made much of an impact this season.

He had just six tackles in New England’s first five games.
