Maryland offense vs. Old Dominion defense: The Monarchs went 11-2 last season in the Football Championship Subdivision, but they are transitioning to the Football Bowl Subdivision and surrendered 481 yards and seven touchdowns last week in a season-opening loss, 52-38, to East Carolina. Maryland, meanwhile, had 576 yards of offense and quarterback C.J. Brown accounted for five touchdowns (three passing, two rushing). Running backs Albert Reid and Jacquille Veii may be pushing starter Brandon Ross for playing time. Running back Joe Riddle (concussion) is expected to return.

Maryland defense vs. Old Dominion offense: Junior quarterback Taylor Heinicke, who won the 2012 Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in the FCS last season, leads the Monarchs' spread offense. Heinicke led the FCS in passing yards (5,076) and passing touchdowns (44) last season, and he can run. The Terps had five sacks in the 43-10 victory over Florida International last week. But Heinicke is adept at scrambling away from pressure. "I think the main concern is that he can create things when you've covered the receivers," Maryland defensive coordinator Brian Stewart said.
