Here's the good news for the Terps. They had lots of fans make the trip to the Palestra, despite unpleasant weather.

"I think we had more fans than they did," Maryland guard Terrell Stoglin said.

I wouldn't completely agree, but it was at least close.

Stoglin loved the intimate Palestra atmosphere.

"It reminded me of a high school gym," he said, meaning it as a compliment.

The bad news for Maryland is that it's not quite ready for a team with three heady guards such as Temple’s Khalif Wyatt, Ramone Moore and Juan Fernandez.

The trio accounted for 54 of Temple’s 73 points and 13 of its 20 assists. They just always seemed to make the right play.

Maryland had eight assists -- the Owls had 20 -- and the Terps had to again rely too much on Stoglin to suit coach Mark Turgeon.

No doubt Stoglin is challenging to defend. "A difficult chore for us" is how Temple coach Fran Dunphy put it.

But the Terps needed more balance on a day when Pe'Shon Howard had a season-high 15 points but Sean Mosley and Nick Faust combined for eight points on 1-for-12 from the field.

It was disappointing to see Alex Len limp off in the first half after twisting his ankle. Temple is not a big team, and Len perhaps could have done some damage.

"I'd like to tell you we have Olajuwon in there," Temple coach Fran Dunphy said. "We don't."
