Joe Vellano named to All-ACC first team

One of the few bright spots of Maryland's 2011 football season was the play of Joe Vellano. On Monday, the junior defensive tackle was rewarded for his efforts by being selected to the All-ACC first team.

Vellano appeared in all 12 games for the Terps (2-10), making 94 tackles (54 solo), including 7.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Vellano also broke up four passes, recovered two fumbles and forced two fumbles.

Junior linebacker Demetrius Hartsfield was also recognized for his play, receiving honorable mention All-ACC accolades. Hartsfield battled a leg injury and played in just nine games this season, but still led the Terps in total tackles with 108 (50 solo), including seven tackles for loss and one sack. He also broke up one pass and recovered a fumble.
