Series: Maryland leads 41-31-2
Last meeting: Virginia defeated Maryland, 20-9, on Oct. 17 in College Park.
Maryland offense vs. Virginia defense: The Cavaliers surrendered 489 yards in losing 55-48 last week at Duke. It was the second-highest combined point total in ACC history. Virginia CB Chase Minnifield has six interceptions. "Their secondary is very good -- they've got two very physical safeties," Maryland offensive coordinator James Franklin said. Maryland quarterback Danny O'Brien is eager to rebound from a 26-20 loss at Miami in which he was critical of his own play. "I think it was a step down for me," said O'Brien, who threw a second-half interception.
Virginia offense vs. Maryland defense: A balanced Virginia offense is led by senior quarterback Marc Verica and the running back tandem of Keith Payne (74.8 yards per game) and Perry Jones (61.9 yards per game). Verica threw for a school-record 417 yards and four touchdown passes in the loss at Duke. Maryland has relied on forcing turnovers (it got two last week) and leads the conference in turnover margin at plus 11.
