Archbishop Spalding guard, son of UMBC basketball coach, commits to Maryland

Connor Odom, the son of UMBC men’s basketball coach Ryan Odom, on Friday announced his commitment to the Maryland men’s basketball program on Instagram.

Odom, a senior guard at Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn, will join the team next season as a preferred walk-on. He previously attended powerhouse Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia.

“I would like to say thank you to Coach [Mark] Turgeon and [director of operations Mark] Bialkoski for allowing me to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Maryland,” Odom wrote in the post. “I’m very excited for what’s to come! Go terps!”

Prior to Odom’s announcement, Maryland had received just one commitment from the Class of 2020 in three-star combo guard Marcus Dockery of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, according to 247Sports. Freshman twin forwards Makhi and Makhel Mitchell left the program in December, leaving Turgeon with two more available scholarships to work with.
