Maryland football receives commitment from five-star 2021 LB Terrence Lewis

Five-star Class of 2021 linebacker Terrence Lewis announced his commitment to Maryland on Saturday, giving Terps coach Mike Locksley a big recruiting coup after the Early Signing Period.

Lewis, the top-ranked inside linebacker and 16th-ranked player in his class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, announced his decision on NBC’s All-American Bowl Declaration Show.

A Miami native, Lewis withdrew his commitment to Tennessee in November 2020 and in December listed the Terps, along with Tennessee, as his top-two finalists. He later added Miami to his final choices.

The 6-1, 200-pound Lewis becomes the highest-rated recruit for Locksley in a class that was already ranked in the top 20 of the country, assisted by Locksley’s flip of four-star linebacker Branden Jennings.

Lewis’ commitment marks the first time Maryland has signed a five-star rated player in consecutive classes since rankings began in 2000. The Terps are one of only 10 programs nationally that have signed a five-star prospect in both 2020 and 2021, according to 247Sports.

Lewis is one of eight signees who will enroll early and participate in spring practice, Maryland announced.
