A trio of girls players with local connections combined to score 23 points and help lead the East over the West, 89-87, in the McDonald's All American Game on Wednesday night at Chicago's United Center. Brianna Fraser, who has signed with Maryland, was the East's fourth-leading scorer, finishing with 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting. She added a team-high two blocks. Future Terps teammate Kiah Gillespie, also a forward, shot 3-for-8 overall, including 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, and finished with nine points. Kentucky-bound guard Taylor Murray (Annapolis Area Christian) finished with four points, making one of four field goals and two free throws.

More girls basketball: As a high school coach for most of his career, Tom Gizzi jumped at the opportunity Friday to take over Seton Keough's team and get back onto the sideline in a conference he knows well. Gizzi coached the McDonogh girls for five seasons before departing for an assistant coaching job with the Loyola Maryland women's team in 2008. In 2012, he left the Greyhounds to pursue a master's degree and now works to help Fortune 500 companies recruit talent. Gizzi will be the third Seton Keough coach in six years. Jody Powell left after four years, moving with her family to Pittsburgh after her husband, former Maryland football assistant coach Andre Powell, took a coaching job at Pitt.

Ex-Raven Reed says he has retired, but tweet might have been a joke

Former Ravens star free safety Ed Reed tweeted Wednesday that he has retired, but it might have been an April Fools' Day joke. "Just made it official!" Reed wrote. "Thank u guys for all the support! #reeeeedtired." Glenn Younes, the head of Reed's charitable foundation, later suggested that the announcement was a joke, tweeting, "My bro just won the Internet it's quite amusing." If Reed does retire, it would clear a path for his induction into the Ravens' Ring of Honor. The Ravens have said they want to induct Reed, but only after he officially has retired from the NFL. Reed, 36, hasn't played in the NFL since the 2013 season. He was named the Associated Press NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2004 and is a nine-time Pro Bowl selection.

More: The Cowboys are bringing back linebacker Rolando McClain after the 2010 No. 8 overall NFL draft pick revived his career with a solid season in Dallas. The team said on its website Wednesday that McClain had re-signed. The one-year deal is worth $3 million. McClain had trouble staying on the field last year because of injuries but still finished second on the team with 108 tackles. The 25-year-old was drafted eighth overall by Oakland in 2010, but the Raiders cut him after three disappointing seasons. He next joined the Ravens, but he retired and twice walked away from the game while skipping the 2013 seasonSean Lee.
