Maryland has begun the process of securing an extra year of eligibility for rising senior quarterback Caleb Rowe.

While the Terps have not received an official answer, Maryland has submitted paperwork to the NCAA to get Rowe a medical hardship waiver, according to a source.

Rowe suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during a practice in October and missed the final seven games of the season.

The backup to starting quarterback C.J. Brown, Rowe saw action in just four games.

Rowe, the favorite to replace Brown as the Terps' starting quarterback, would have two years of eligibility remaining if the medical hardship waiver is approved.
