Terps' men's basketball schedule includes 2 games each with Duke and UNC

Maryland has announced its men's basketball schedule for the upcoming season, which includes home-and-home series against both Duke and North Carolina.

The Terps will play an 18-game ACC schedule for the first time, including home-and-home series with Boston College, Duke, Florida State, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

The Terps face Clemson and N.C. State at home and Georgia Tech and Miami on the road.

This is the last year before Pittsburgh and Syracuse start showing up on the conference schedule. Maryland will play Pitt twice each season.

Maryland, which has perhaps its most touted freshman class since the ones that entered after the 2002 national championship season, opens with an exhibition against IUP on Nov. 2.

Next up is defending national champion Kentucky at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 9.

“The ACC features some of the best teams in the country,” Terps coach Mark Turgeon said in a news release. “We are focused on building upon what we started last season and look forward to the challenge of our very competitive ACC schedule.”

Maryland opens conference play at home against Virginia Tech on Jan. 5.

North Carolina visits Comcast Center on March 6, while the Blue Devils will travel here Feb. 16. Nine of Maryland’s 18 conference games are against teams that reached the NCAA tournament last season.

Other nonconference opponents include Northwestern on Nov. 27 as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and George Mason in the BB&T Classic at Washington's Verizon Center, on Dec. 2.

The 2013 ACC tournament will be held March 14-17 in Greensboro, N.C.
