Maryland football coach DJ Durkin said on his weekly Monday teleconference that he is "very hopeful" fifth-year quarterback Perry Hills could be ready for Saturday's home game against Michigan State after sitting out a 31-10 loss to Minnesota last week.
"We held him out of the game so nothing further happened to him," Durkin said. "He's further along health-wise. That will be day-to-day thing as we go throughout the week again. … With the added rest time and not taking a hit on [his shoulder], we're much further along."
Hills was taken out of the 38-14 loss two weeks ago at Penn State late in the first half after reinjuring his right shoulder. Hills also came out of the team's 30-24 double overtime win at Central Florida on Sept. 17 after being slammed to the ground on the first play of the second overtime period.
True freshman Tyrrell Pigrome, who scored touchdowns on his first play from scrimmage against UCF to give the Terps the victory and also scored on his first play against Penn State, made his first start in Saturday's loss at Maryland Stadium.
Durkin said Monday that senior cornerback Will Likely is still undergoing tests to determine the extent of the knee injury he sustained in Saturday's 31-10 home loss to Minnesota.
Likely was injured after muffing a punt early in the second quarter and never returned.
"He's undergoing further tests today so I don't know a complete update on where he's at yet," Durkin said.
