Maryland junior guard Melo Trimble was one of 10 players named preseason All-Big Ten Conference on Tuesday, as voted on by league media members.
A two-time All-Big Ten selection, Trimble led the Terps in scoring (14.8 points per game), assists (five per game), free-throw percentage (.868) and steals (44) last season as the Terps advanced to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2003.
Wisconsin’s Nigel Hayes was the only unanimous all-conference selection and was named Preseason Big Ten Player of the Year. Also honored were Illinois’ Malcolm Hill, Indiana’s James Blackmon Jr. and Thomas Bryant, Iowa’s Peter Jok, Michigan’s Derrick Walton Jr., Purdue’s Caleb Swanigan, and Wisconsin’s Ethan Happ and Bronson Koenig.
Trimble is the lone starter returning from last year's Terps, who were a popular pick in the preseason to reach the Final Four, but finished the year a bit below expectations with a 27-9 record.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder from Upper Marlboro was a member of the postseason All-Big Ten second-team following both his freshman and sophomore seasons.
The Terps will host Maryland Madness on Friday at 8 p.m.
