Maryland added a big piece to its recruiting class Thursday night, landing an oral commitment from four-star defensive lineman Adam McLean, who announced his commitment on Twitter.
A 6-foot-1, 280-pound Quince Orchard star, McLean committed to Penn State in April before decommitting in November.
McLean reportedly visited Washington State on Nov. 28. But he tweeted recently that he had a "great talk" with Terps coach Randy Edsall, commented on Twitter after Class of 2016 linebacker Keandre Jones committed to Maryland earlier this week and committed to the Terps during a home visit from Edsall on Thursday.
McLean, who also claimed offers from schools such as Alabama, Florida State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Texas, is well connected locally and was a factor in Class of 2016 five-star defensive end Shane Simmons's commitment to Penn State over the summer.
The next two recruiting classes are filled with four-star recruits from the state of Maryland, prospects who could help the Terps take the next step as a program and become a factor nationally.
McLean could help Maryland with the recruitment of those players, including Class of 2016 blue-chip prospect and Bullis quarterback Dwayne Haskins.
"Soo my boy [McLean] is a terp," Haskins tweeted after McLean's commitment Thursday. "You thought it was a game lol. #TerpNation"
