Terps hire former Jacksonville Jaguars assistant coach Terry Richardson

Maryland has filled a vacancy on its coaching staff with a former assistant who coached under Randy Edsall at Connecticut and spent the past two seasons coaching in the NFL.

The Terps hired former Jacksonville Jaguars running backs coach Terry Richardson to the same position, a source confirmed Tuesday night.

Richardson replaces Andre Powell, who recently left Maryland for Pittsburgh.

A former Syracuse and NFL running back, Richardson was the running backs coach at Connecticut from Edsall's first season as the Huskies' coach in 1999 until Edsall left for the Terps in 2011.

Richardson spent two seasons as the running backs coach at Miami before being hired by the Jaguars in 2013. He was fired by the Jaguars Jan. 27.
