Maryland special teams coordinator and running backs coach Andre Powell has been hired as the special teams coordinator and running backs coach at Pittsburgh, his new school announced Friday morning.

Powell will work under recently hired Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi, whom he coached with at Rhode Island in 1993 and 1994.

"I've known Andre Powell for more than 20 years," Narduzzi, who had been the defensive coordinator at Michigan State since 2007, said in a statement. "In addition to coaching a lot of great running backs, Andre has a tremendous passion for outstanding special teams play. We faced him and Maryland this past season, and I was highly impressed by their special teams."

Powell had been on the Terps' staff since coach Randy Edsall's first year in 2011.
