Freshman receiver-returner Stefon Diggs — who had been a constant during Maryland's injury-plagued season — has been ruled out of Saturday's game at Clemson because of an injured ankle.
Diggs was seen around campus this week wearing a walking boot.
He is among three players — running back Wes Brown (ankle) and receiver Tyrek Cheeseboro (concussion) are the others — listed as "out" for Saturday. That does not include the nine players — including all four true quarterbacks — who are listed as "out for the season."
Diggs has caught 43 passes for 721 yards and six touchdowns. He is second in the Atlantic Coast Conference in all-purpose yards (1,774) and has already set the Maryland freshman record in that category.
Brown, like Diggs a freshman from Good Counsel, leads the Terps with 382 rushing yards. He had taken snaps out of the team's version of the wildcat formation in Saturday's loss to Georgia Tech before leaving with the injury.
"I just planted wrong on my ankle and it bothered me a little bit and I didn't want to risk it," Brown said after that game.
The Terps (4-5, 2-3 ACC) are expected to again start converted linebacker Shawn Petty at quarterback against the heavily favored Tigers (8-1, 5-1 ACC).
Maryland's top defensive player, lineman Joe Vellano (ankle) is listed as questionable.
