With heavy snow creating treacherous footing and limiting visibility, officials Saturday suspended the women's lacrosse showdown between top-ranked Maryland and No. 2 North Carolina after just 10 minutes of play.
Maryland led 4-1 before Tar Heels coach Jenny Levy asked for a stoppage in play to meet with officials and Terps coach Cathy Reese. The field had been covered in snow since the opening draw, with athletic department officials periodically running out with shovels to clear off lines.
The game will start over at 1 p.m. Sunday, weather permitting.
North Carolina (3-0) is the only team to defeat Maryland (1-0) over the past two seasons, topping the Terps in triple overtime of the 2013 national title game before handing them their only loss during Maryland's national championship run a year ago.
