Security tightened at Maryland for athletic events

In response to the measures being taken as a result of the terrorist attacks in Paris last Friday, University of Maryland will increase security at "all future athletic events," beginning with Tuesday's men's basketball game against Georgetown and Saturday's football game against Indiana.

For the 9 p.m. basketball game -- the first on-campus appearance by the Hoyas in more than 40 years -- doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for students and 7:30 for other fans. All fans and their belongings will be subject to search.

Fans will no longer be allowed to carry backpacks with them into Xfinity Center or Byrd Stadium. Fans are asked that instead of backpacks, to please carry bags no bigger than 8" by 11" by 12"  Students can enter the game through Gate F, other fans can enter via gates A and B on the second level, C and D on the ground level and E by the Terrapin Trail Garage.
