Diamond Stone should hope those who post NBA mock drafts have no legitimate connection to those who are actually picking in the real NBA draft.
Stone, who announced last month he is turning pro and not returning to Maryland for his sophomore year, has fallen out of the first round, according to DraftExpress.com.
The 6-foot-11 center, who began working out at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., after signing with Tandem Sports & Entertainment, is listed as the No. 33 overall pick in the June 23 draft.
That's a dramatic drop on DraftExpress, which previously listed Stone as the No. 23 pick. He was in the top 10 when he was coming out of high school in Milwaukee last spring.
Stone is one of four Terps to be projected in the second round.
Point guard Melo Trimble, who still can return because he has yet to sign with an agent, is listed at No. 38; forward Jake Layman is No. 47 and forward Robert Carter is No. 51.
DraftExpress is considered by many NBA scouts as the most accurate of the mock drafts. It's founder, Jonathan Givony, also writes for Yahoo!, and put Stone No. 22 in the mock draft that site published Wednesday.
Sports Illustrated also has Stone going No. 22 to the Hornets.
ESPN draft analyst Chad Ford listed Stone as No. 18 overall as of April 26.
CBS Sports has Stone going with the last pick of the opening round with the thought that the Golden State Warriors could put him in the NBA Development League.
