Maryland guard Pe'Shon Howard out extended period with broken foot

Maryland men's basketball guard Pe'Shon Howard has broken his foot and will miss as many as 10-12 weeks.

That's obviously disheartening news for the Terps and new coach Mark Turgeon.

Turgeon loves Howard, who can play point guard or shooting guard and is known as a slick passer.

Howard, in his second season, was clearly a starter and a key in the four-guard lineup. He's a pretty rugged one-on-one defender.

The injury is a small broken bone in his left foot.
If Howard returns in 10 weeks, he'll miss 13 games but be back for the start of the ACC schedule on Jan. 8 against N.C. State.
If Howard returns in 12 weeks, he'll miss four or so conference games and return in the heart of the ACC schedule in January.

ā€œI feel bad for Pe’Shon,ā€ Turgeon said in a news release this morning that confirmed the buzz about Howard.  ā€œHe worked so hard and had a great summer and early fall. He’s been practicing and playing well for us. Hopefully, we’ll get a lot better by the time Pe’Shon joins the team later this year.ā€

Howard averaged 5.4 points and 3.2 assists last season as a freshman.
With Alex Len's eligibility still uncertain, the Terps are now down to seven-- count 'em -- scholarship players.
Got eligibility?
