Maryland did some encouraging things Sunday, right? There was James Padgett with his first career double-double. There were Sean Mosley's 17 points. And, of course, there was Terrell "the Microwave" Stoglin and his 31 points.
But, let's face it, this is hardly the Notre Dame that ended UCLA's 88-game winning streak so many years ago. Raise your hand if you remember that one.
The Irish seem to play a variation of "small ball." Three guards -- sometimes more -- out there at once.
Padgett was good tonight, but he should have been. He had about four inches on at least one of his defenders.
Did you catch the quotes from Notre Dame coach Mike Brey on Stoglin?
“He’s like World B. Free man, he’s like the Microwave of College Park,” Brey said
Or this one from Brey about Mosley?
"I love him. I told him after the game he's a man. He’s steady, he doesn't do things he can't do. He's a great example for my young guys. He’s there every day."
Quick thought: Will Stoglin handle it OK next season when Maryland presumably has more scorers and he may not have the ball in his hands so much? That's a question for another day.
