Notable leftover quotes from Terps' Signing Day news conference

Maryland coach Randy Edsall spent 25 minutes Wednesday introducing the 18 members of the Terps' recruiting class and answering various questions about the class.

Some of Edsall's quotes made it into my story for Thursday's paper. Others on individual players will be used in stories on those players during the next week. However, here are some other notable quotes from Edsall's news conference:

On the class:

"The thing we wanted to do we accomplished because we wanted to continue to build our team from the inside out, and having been able to land the quality and number of offensive linemen that we were able to land really enhances what we want to do, where we want to go in the Big Ten and what we've got to compete against. And also, to get the defensive linemen that we got, headed by Adam McLean from Quince Orchard, I think it helps us moving forward with what we want to do because of the league that we're playing in and the needs that we had."

On planning ahead for the 2016 recruiting class:

"We still have some numbers that we have left [in terms of scholarships]. But what you don't do, you just don't go and take somebody just to take somebody. That's the thing. You've got to look to the following year almost because right now we don't have many seniors next year, and you look at this area in 2016, it's going to be a pretty good area. So you try to go after guys. But if you don't get them, then you just roll those things over really to next year because of the talent that you have in this area in 2016."

On not landing four-star offensive tackle Isaiah Prince or three-star defensive lineman Austrian Robinson, who both announced their college plans last Wednesday:

"You're never going to get everybody you want. I mean, just go and take a look around the country. I just happened to be watching something this morning. A kid from Plano, Texas, chooses UCLA over Texas. So it happens. You're not going to get every guy you're looking for, and you never worry about the guys you don't get. Worry about the guys that you do get. That's my thing. Like I've said, I don't put a lot of stock in rankings. We do this for a living. We know what our needs are. We know what we need to fill, the positions that we need to help us be successful. We went out there and did it. This year's already over, and we're already on to 2016. But like I said, I'm thrilled about this group. It's a great group."
