New defensive starter out for Terps football, but offense's health is improving

Enough players have returned from injuries that Maryland's offense won't look so depleted Saturday against Syracuse.

Quarterback C.J. Brown and running back Brandon Ross, who have both missed time this season with injuries, are playing, and tight end Dave Stinebaugh (knee) is listed as probable in Thursday's injury report. Of course, the offense is still lacking top wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Deon Long with season-ending lower-leg fractures.

The defense remains thinned. Starting linebacker Cole Farrand (concussion) is the latest casualty. He is listed as out. Linebacker L.A. Goree (back) is questionable.

Farrand has started seven of Maryland's eight games. He had 23 tackles last month against Clemson.

The Terps had hoped that perhaps cornerback Jeremiah Johnson, a starter when the season began, might be back Saturday. But he is listed as out. Here is the full injury report from the school:
