With the addition of 28 players in DJ Durkin's second recruiting class at Maryland, a number of players who were recruited by former coach Randy Edsall are no longer part of the program.
Of the nine players who are not listed on the current roster released Thursday, only redshirt junior offensive guard Mike Minter saw significant playing time in 2016.
Minter (Severna Park) started 11 games, including the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit, at left guard. Minter, a three-time All-Academic Big Ten selection, is expected to graduate in the spring.
Redshirt junior defensive end Malik Jones (Dunbar) appeared in six games. According to InsideMDSports.com, which first reported the departures, Jones has signed with Toledo.
Linebackers Gus Little, Brett Zanotto and Tyler Burke, none of whom played last year after being a part of Edsall's final recruiting class, have all transferred down a level to Football Championship Subdivision schools.
Three others – quarterback Gage Shaffer, as well as offensive linemen E.J. Donahue and JaJuan Dulaney – are no longer listed on the roster, but have yet to announce where they might play next. Defensive tackle David Shaw enrolled at Montana last month.
