The Terps were the only top-five team not to receive a first-place vote. The Huskies were No. 1 on 18 of the 32 ballots. No. 2 Notre Dame (eight), No. 3 South Carolina (three), No. 4 Baylor (two) and No. 6 Texas (one) also got No. 1 votes.

Maryland's closest competition in the Big Ten Conference, Ohio State, tied for No. 6.

The Associated Press preseason rankings are expected to be released next week.
