Fresh off Sunday's win in the Big Ten championship game, Maryland's men's soccer team has earned the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA tournament.
The Terps (13-5-3) have received a first-round bye and could face a local opponent in the second round.
UMBC, the America East champion, plays its first-round match Thursday at Wake Forest at 7 p.m., with the winner facing Maryland on Sunday in College Park.
Whichever team emerges will face either Tulsa, Saint Louis or No. 13-seeded Louisville in the third round.
Maryland reached last year's national final before falling to Notre Dame.
This year's Terps began the season 3-5-2 and at one point fell out of the rankings, but they haven't lost since Oct. 5. They defeated Indiana, 2-1, at home Sunday to claim their first Big Ten tournament title.
UMBC improved to 12-5-3 with its 2-1 victory over visiting Hartford in the America East championship Saturday.
Wake Forest is 10-7-1 and has reached the NCAA tournament for the 12th time in 13 years.
Defending champion Notre Dame has the No. 1 seed in this year's tourney, with UCLA No. 2 and Michigan State No. 3.
The semifinals (Dec. 12) and final (Dec. 14) will be held in Cary, N.C.
