As part of a new plan to play six Big Ten football games on Friday nights beginning in 2017, Maryland was one of seven teams selected for the first year of the initiative.
The conference announced Tuesday that the Terps will host Northwestern on Oct. 13, the first-ever meeting between the schools.
It is one of three conference games on the schedule for a Friday night next season.
Northwestern was the only school to be selected for two games. The Wildcats will also play Michigan State two weeks later in Evanston, Ill.
There will be two games on Labor Day weekend, with Rutgers hosting Washington and Wisconsin playing at home against Utah State on Sept. 1.
A week later, Ohio plays at Purdue.
The first conference game will be played Sept. 29, with Nebraska playing at Illinois.
