Maryland, continuing its adjustment to a 3-4 defense, shuffled its staff responsibilities.
Lyndon Johnson -- who was special teams coach last season -- will now oversee both outside linebacker positions. Last season, he coached the Star position -- a linebacker hybrid-- in addition to special teams.
"With our scheme changes defensively, the Sam and Will are two of the most critical components of the scheme and I wanted Lyndon devoting his full attention to these positions," head coach Randy Edsall said.
Andre Powell, the running backs coach, will take over special teams, which often struggled last season -- particularly on kickoff return defense.
Powell was previously a special-teams coordinator at Clemson.
