Editor's note: Each week, InsideMdSports.com provides this blog with a Maryland recruiting feature that previously appeared as premium content on its site.
This past week, Maryland was down in Georgia yet again to check out Wheeler (Ga.) High School's pair of junior blue-chippers. Maryland's staff had already made a trip earlier this school year to see Daniel Giddens and Jaylen Brown, and saw them both frequently during the Amateur Athletic Union circuit in the summer with Game Elite.
Brown, who is ranked eighth overall in the Top247, is hearing from schools from across the country. With a seemingly wide-open recruitment, several schools are still trying to see whether they have a shot with the elite 6-foot-7 wing prospect, but he has taken note of the consistent efforts of a handful of teams.
"Its been crazy. Most of the time during the week, I just shut my phone off because I end up with like 300 messages a day," Brown told IMS. "There have been a lot of schools, I really don't want to leave anyone out. The schools that stand out are Clemson, UNC, Florida State, Alabama, Ohio State, N.C. State, UVA, Maryland and Georgia Tech. These are schools that are coming at me the hardest. … They are contacting me at least once a week."
