The Maryland baseball team's road to Omaha will start out West.
The Terps (39-21) will open their second straight NCAA Division I tournament at 7 p.m. Friday against Ole Miss (30-26) in the Los Angeles regional, which includes top overall seed UCLA (42-14) and Cal State-Bakersfield (36-22-1).
The winner of the double-elimination regional will advance to the super regionals, which feature a best-of-three matchup against another regional champion. The eight super-regional winners advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
Maryland, the preseason Big Ten Conference favorite, finished tied for third in the league with a 14-10 record, far behind Illinois (47-8-1, 21-1) and Iowa (39-16, 19-5). The Terps defeated the Fighting Illini on Friday in the Big Ten tournament, ending their 27-game winning streak and likely securing Maryland's second tournament appearance since 1971. The Terps lost to Michigan, 4-3, on Sunday in the Big Ten final.
