"Coach Brattan actually came down to the game [last] Friday, but I've been talking to the whole coaching staff," he said. "I talk to Coach [Randy] Edsall a lot. Really, [I talk to] all of them."
It's not just the coaches that have helped with the Terrapins' pursuit of the 92-rated recruit, however.
"I got a good relationship with the players up there," he said. "There are some former [Quince Orchard] players up there. I'm good friends with [junior linebacker] Alex Twine and I [saw] him on Friday."
Despite all of that, he has not yet been able to catch a game in College Park this season, but he is looking to change that in the very near future.
"I do know that I have a visit set up for the October 12th weekend," McLean said. "I'm going to check out the game and spend some time with the coaches."
As for that interest from around the country, the Top247 prospect says he's still listening to them, too.
"I've been talking to Coach [Jim] Fisher from Oregon a lot and he told me they were very interested in me and were probably going to offer when they come down to see me," McLean said. "I've been talking to USC a lot, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt a lot. Most of the SEC schools have [contacted] me."
Those programs have not been able to show as much love as the nearby Terrapins have, but they do join the hometown team in an unofficial top group for McLean.
"Maryland, Oregon, USC, Florida and Ole Miss. I'm definitely liking those schools," he said. "I don't have a leader, but those schools definitely do stand out to me."
