On Monday, Maryland offered 247Sports' No. 52 player in the class of 2015, forward Tyler Lydon.
Lydon is a New York native who transferred from his hometown school -- Pine Plains (N.Y.) -- to the New Hampton (N.H.) School.
The 6-foot-8 forward went from having offers from mid-major schools to picking up scholarships Boston College, Providence, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Penn State and Virginia Tech.
Since then, interest has only gone up after his continued success on the EYBL circuit and impressive showings at the Reebok Breakout Classic and in Las Vegas. His offer sheet now includes about 20 schools, including Syracuse and Florida.
Lydon picked up the Maryland offer after meeting with Mark Turgeon at his school's open gym. Turgeon was originally expected to be at the Northfield Mount Hermon (Mass.) to see Josh Sharma, but he made a surprise stop in New Hampshire instead.
"The head coach came to our open gym and it was the first time I've ever talked to anyone from Maryland," Lydon said. "But the assistant [Scott Spinelli] called my dad the other day and said that they were interested in recruiting me and the next thing you know they showed up. Like, I had no idea it was the head coach and then they offered me."
