Punter Nathan Renfro, who struggled with his consistency in three years as a starter for Maryland despite a career average of more than 40 yards per punt, has transferred to Tennessee. The announcement of Renfro's transfer was made Friday by Tennessee.

Renfro, who grew up outside Nashville, had informed Maryland coach Randy Edsall at the end of spring practice that he planned to focus on graduating early rather than punting.

Though Renfro showed a strong leg at times, it often came when he failed to effectively pooch punt deep into an opponent's side of the field. Edsall criticized the punting in the April spring game for its inconsistency.

With Renfro no longer in the mix, Edsall is expected to give a long look to incoming freshman Nick Rubinowicz, who is considered one of the most promising punters in the country.

The Terps also have two walk-ons, Nick Pritchard and Lee Shrader, on the roster.
