Former four-star cornerback D'Andre Payne transferring from Tennessee to Maryland

A day that began with the news that one of Maryland's top recruiting targets had committed orally elsewhere ended with the Terps adding a former four-star cornerback to their secondary.

Washington native and Tennessee freshman D'Andre Payne, who graduated from H.D. Woodson (D.C.), tweeted Friday night that he will transfer to Maryland.

"Told y'all we making big moves," Maryland Class of 2015 commit Adam McLean tweeted after Payne's announcement.

Rivals.com ranked Payne as the 18th-best cornerback and second-best player from Washington in last year's recruiting class.

The 5-foot-9, 175-pound Payne had four tackles in eight games as a true freshman at Tennessee.

While Payne likely will have to sit out next season under NCAA transfer rules, he could redshirt and still have three years of eligibility remaining.

"Patience is key," Payne tweeted. "The lord works in mysterious ways! Let's get it."
