Big Ten announces Maryland's 2016, 2017 football schedules

Welcome to your future, Maryland. The Big Ten has announced its conference football schedules for 2016 and 2017.

Here are highlights of the next five years of Maryland schedules. Note that nonconference games aren't included in the schedules that the conference has released.

2013: Maryland plays its final season in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The final ACC regular-season game is at N.C. State on Nov. 30. The last ACC home game is a week earlier, at home against Boston College.

2014: Maryland plays its first Big Ten game Sept. 27 at Indiana and has its home opener a week later against Ohio State at Byrd Stadium.

2015: For the second time in three years, the Maryland football team will play a game at M&T Bank Stadium -- this time against Penn State in what Terps fans hope will be part of a renewed rivalry between the schools. The game -- scheduled for Oct. 24 -- will mark Penn State's first visit to the state for a Terps game since 1993.

2016: Maryland meets Purdue for the first time as a conference opponent, opening the conference schedule against the Boilermakers at home on Oct. 1. For the third season in a row, the Terps will close the regular season with a game against Rutgers. Will the Scarlet Knights be considered a rival by then?

2017: Maryland opens with two road games (Minnesota, Ohio State), which is unusual. The Teps close with Penn State for the first time since joining the Big Ten.
