ACC honors Terps' Marcus Whitfield, Dexter McDougle for play vs. UConn

The Atlantic Coast Conference honored a pair of Terps football players Monday for their performance in Maryland's 32-21 win over Connecticut on Saturday.

Terps senior linebacker Marcus Whitfield was named the ACC Linebacker of the Week, according to a news release, while senior cornerback Dexter McDougle -- who suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in the game -- was picked as the conference's Defensive Back of the Week.

Whitfield had three sacks for the Terps, including a safety. He currently leads the country with 5 1/2 sacks in Maryland's first three games this season.

McDougle had two interceptions before he was injured, including a 49-yard return for a touchdown. He became the first Terps player to return an interception back for a touchdown since A.J. Hendy against North Carolina State on Nov. 26, 2011.

McDougle also had eight tackles (seven solo) in the win, which moved the Terps to 3-0 for the first time since 2001. The Terps play host to West Virginia at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
